Backend Engineer (Java/Spring Boot)

Build the systems that have to be right — APIs, data models, and backend services for clients in regulated, high-stakes industries.
What you'll do
Design and build backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot
Work on data-intensive systems, including database schema design and query optimization
Write tests that actually catch regressions, not just satisfy a coverage metric
Participate in code review and architecture discussions across the engineering team
Work with PostgreSQL and other relational databases at production scale
What we're looking for
3+ years building backend services in Java, with Spring Boot specifically
Strong understanding of relational database design and SQL
Experience with REST API design and versioning
Comfortable working in regulated or compliance-sensitive domains (healthcare, finance, or similar)
Can explain a tradeoff you made between simplicity and performance, and why
Nice to have
Experience with Azure or AWS
Exposure to healthcare or financial services compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.)
